Monte Hewett embarks on the toughest Mountain Bike race of his life!

Monte is leaving TODAY (Monday) for Costa Rica on a truly amazing journey! He is competing in the La Ruta de los Conquestadores, an insane, coast to coast mountain bike race.

Monte has been training very hard for many months for this, the most challenging bike race of his life. We at MHH are very proud of him and sent him off with some much needed “emergency supplies” of Ben Gay, ace bandages, band-aids, first aid kits and such. We hope he won’t need any of it!

We’re hoping the race website will post the riders’ progress each night, but we’re not sure. The first stage of the race kicks off Wednesday morning. Here’s a link to the route map. We will post the other stages on our MHH blog on the morning that he starts each one. We hope you will follow along and send Monte positive thoughts this week!

Fall/Winter Home Maintenance Checklist
The weather outside is changing (and the fall colors are gorgeous!), and now is the time to run a check of your home.  Listed below is a simple checklist of items to ensure your home is ready for winter.

R Replace heating and air conditioning filters and set your electric thermostats for winter weather
R Fireplace? - Check to ensure gas light is working and flu is clean
R Sprinkler system - drain the system to ensure water doesn't freeze pipes, and change programming to ensure system is shut-off.
R Windows - Check caulking to ensure water tight. Wood Windows?? - open and close all windows to ensure they don't get "stuck" over time.
R clean gutters of all debris, winter is typically the wet season in Atlanta.
R repair any missing paint, shake or shingles.
R check all hand rails and balusters to ensure tightly fit to structure.
R check your dryer vents and clear of any debris.
R check hoses on toilets and washer (both cold and hot) to ensure no leaks or replacement needed
R cover outside water values after shutoff and drain of system

A Winter Reminder from MHH Customer Service

Smoke Detectors and Carbon Monoxide Detectors can save lives, but ONLY IF the batteries are fresh and the units are working.  It's time to change the batteries! Yes, your smoke detectors are hard-wired, but they also have battery backups in case the power goes out. Show them the love with fresh batteries!

Monte Hewett Homes also suggests keeping a Fire Extinguisher on every level of your home.

Fall is a great time to check/buy/replace these devices!

Precautions: As always, we simply provide these tips as things that have worked for our homeowners and customer service managers. Monte Hewett Homes makes no claims or warranties on these tips and tricks.  Common sense should dictate in most instances.
