Caring for your Hardwood Floors
  One of the components that make a Monte Hewett Home stand apart from the rest are the hardwood floors.  Regardless of the color and type of hardwood, caring for these floors is an important part of homeowner maintenance.  A home with great looking floors will make a great impression on your guests and prospective buyers.  This month we focus on the top 5 tips for great looking floors.
 
  Remember:  Water and Wood never make a great mix.  Keep your floors as dry as possible at all times.  Even a little water can cause lots of damage.
  1. Tip 1:  Do NOT use oil, chemical base, or wax cleaners on Monte Hewett Homes hardwood floors.  This will ruin the poly coats.
     
  2. Tip 2:  High heels on women's shoes, and hard soled men's shoes can damage floors.  Keep heel caps on shoes in good repair.  Also, office chairs and furniture with rollers should be kept in very good condition.  Repeated use over the same area will cause damage to the floor.
     
  3. Tip 3:  Pet and pet claws scratch the hardwood finish.  While some damage can be repaired, keeping those pet claws neatly trimmed will prolong your floors beautiful appearance.

Homeowners should only DAMP mop their hardwoods twice a year. 
REMEMBER:  Wood and Water
NEVER mix well.
When needed, use a mixture of 1 cup white vinegar to 1 gallon of water.
Mop quickly and allow floors to dry quickly!

  1. Tip 4:  Do not use tape on floors.  If using area rugs, be sure to use a protective backing material to keep rugs in place.  Over time tape will stick to the floor, damage the poly coat, or even stain the floor permanently.
     

  2. Tip 5:  NEVER slide items over your hardwood floors.  Furniture, strollers, refrigerators, and hundreds of other items will damage your floors.  Use protective felt pads on all furniture when possible to avoid creating "dimples" in the floors.
